All About Pinguecula
Pinguecula refers to slightly elevated lesions that appear near the cornea on the surface tissue of the sclera. Usually, they are found in palpebral fissure, area between the eyelids which is exposed to the sun.
It is a bump or a yellowish patch on the white part of the eye, often on the side close to the nose. Do not worry as it is not a tumor but a modification of typical tissue resulting in a deposit of protein and fat. It may increase in size over a period of time.
This eye disease commonly occurs in older or middle aged people who spent a lot of time in sun. However, it is also foundĀ in younger people who spend larger amounts of time in the sun without any protections such as hats or sunglasses.
