Ptosis occurs when levators, the muscles that raise the eyelid are not strong enough to do so properly. Ptosis can also be a result of trauma/damage to the levator, or damage to the oculomotor nerve which is responsible for controlling the levator.
A drooping eyelid could also be a symptom of diabetes mellitus or brain tumor.
Ptosis could also result from an exposure to toxins in some snakes or insects, like the black mamba.
A complexity with the leavtor muscle or a person’s facial anatomy could lead to ptosis.
Ptosis may be present since birth, a result of aging or a byproduct of cataract or any other eye surgery.
