Tratment for Optic Neuropathy
The treatment for optic neuropathy varies depending upon the causes responsible.
- In cases, where the optic neuropathy is related to multiple sclerosis or the cause is undetermined, the vision often returns to normal within 12 weeks with no treatment. However, it may also advance to a permanent state of partial or complete vision loss.
- Treatment with steroid medication, may speed up the recovery as they help in reducing the inflammation
- Sometimes, when the steroid therapy fails and severe vision loss persists, a treatment called the plasma exchange therapy is used.
